“ My German teacher, professor Renate von Keudell, saw something in me that I didn’t even see in myself. She believed in me and challenged me. She changed my life.”

Harper College graduate Fulbright scholar winner

Teaching is not a vocation. It is a gift. Those with the calling are blessed with a selfless purpose whose joy is realized in the accomplishment of others. Harper College is first and foremost a teaching college. Some of our faculty members do research, but all of them will admit that their passion comes from working with students and teaching. Our classes are small and the learning is personal, which promotes an intimate dialogue. Sure, big universities boast cavernous lecture halls. But to teach at Harper is to understand that instruction comes from the power of connection, not a podium.

“I am passionate about teaching, and Harper is a wonderful place to teach. It’s not a nine-to-five job. It’s a way of life.”

Harper College anthropology professor

52 Harper full-time faculty members have a Ph.D. or the highest advanced degree in their field.
