“ We’re very enthusiastic about where Harper’s fire science program is going. It’s a valuable resource for keeping our firefighters up to date with the latest training and certifications.”

Chief Norman Malcolm
Palatine Fire Department
Those everyday heroes who enable us to live normal, everyday lives don’t merely swoop to the rescue. Aside from having hearts the size of pumper trucks, they need special training. After the September 11 terrorist attacks, interest in Harper’s firefighting and criminal justice programs soared. Enrollment in fire science jumped 62% in 2002 and 83% in 2003. To meet the demand, we revamped our curriculum, hired new teachers and forged new partnerships with area fire departments and the State Fire Marshal. Our community needs dedicated civil servants. May we always respond as quickly to their needs as they do to ours.

“ I knew I couldn’t spend my life in a cubicle, and followed my heart. Harper College helped me realize my dream of becoming a firefighter with its amazing fire science program.”
