Success Stories

  • Joan Fiske ('90) received the William Rainey Harper College Outstanding Service Award in November 1999.
  • Joan Fiske ('90) and Anne Orozcol ('93) are currently serving as co-chairs of the professinal development committee for the Illinois Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
  • Congratulations to Peggy Weaver, current recipient of the Jacob and Iris Wolf Interpreting Scholarship.

  • Michele Jendreas ('97) was selected by Sign Language Associates, Inc. to participate in their mentoring program. SLA's competitive program brings interpreters to the Washington, DC metropolitan area from all over the country. Congratulations, Michele.
  • Gina Michelsen ('92) is currently serving as vice-president of the Illinois Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
  • Natalie J. Mikolajczak ('97) is currently serving as treasurer of the Illinois Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
  • Maureen Philbin ('96) and Bob Paul, assistant professor, were both instrumental in forming the Deaf Adults Education Access Program in Chicago. Barbara Munder, a current student and Steve Krause ('96) also serve on the D.A.E.A.P. board.
  • Andy Romano ('94) is currently serving as president of the Colorado RID, Mile High Division.

All individuals served on the 1998 Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Region III Conference planning committee. The conference, Visions of Excellence: A Professional Commitment, was held in July in Rosemont, Illinois. The profession extends its gratitude to the individuals who worked diligently for many months in order to make the regional conference a success.
