The Sign Language Interpreting Program
(SLIP) at William Rainey Harper College is a
program for individuals just like you. The goal of the
program is to prepare graduates for entry-level positions
in various interpreting settings.
The 40-credit hour career program provides instruction
in language development and cross-cultural understanding.
Interpreting theory is presented and the application of
skills and theory to the interpreting task is stressed.
Students are also required to fulfill a practicum
experience, which enables them to apply their knowledge
and skill. Courses are currently offered in the
evening.
The program teaches interpreters to mediate between
Deaf and non-Deaf (hearing) individuals with different
cultural backgrounds and language styles in order to
provide an accurate and effective interpretation.
