Interactive Language Laboratory

Our state-of-the-art language laboratory provides an interactive learning environment which allows instructors greater flexibility in material selection, delivery and class format. Students and faculty can work on audiotapes, videotapes or CD ROM software. In this interactive lab, students can work independently at individual work stations or they can work on teacher-directed activities. A language lab supervisor is available to work with students when requested. Some highlights of the lab include:

work stations at which individuals can:

  • watch and/or listen to audio or video material

  • videotape themselves with built-in cameras

  • view and/or record both the source and target language via picture-in-picture option

  • communicate with the instructor (located in a separate broadcast room)

broadcast room in which instructors can:

  • distribute video or audio source material to all or select students at work stations

  • simultaneously distribute different source materials to select groups

  • monitor a student at the individual work station and provide immediate feedback

  • communicate with one or all students at the work station(s)

  • project visual images (such as photographs) to student monitors

computer technology:

  • access the internet

  • work with sign language and interpreting CD ROM software programs
