A scholarship fund for interpreting students has been established at Harper College. The Jacob and Iris Wolf Sign Language Interpreting Scholarship was set up with the assistance of Dr. Harvey Wolf in memory of his father. The fund is a living testament to Jacob Wolf's commitment to challenged individuals and to Iris Wolf's belief that one has to always give back for the good fortune received in life. |

Harvey Wolf is a psychologist who works with terminally ill patients, some of whom are Deaf. In his earlier years he worked at Harper College as a sign language interpreter and was awarded certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Dr. Wolf recently returned to Harper to take classes in the Sign Language Interpreting Program. The scholarship is available for students enrolled in the Sign Language Interpreting Program and will allow deserving students to receive financial support as they pursue their professional goals. Congratulations to Peggy Weaver, who received the scholarship for the 1999-2000 academic year. Ms. Weaver was recognized at a luncheon and had this to say: "Now that I'm nearing the end of my coursework, I have a healthy respect for how much more there is to learn, but a strong sense that studying at Harper was the right thing to do, and good will come of it. So I'd like to say thank you to my teachers - Vicki Gratzke, Amy Dixon-Kolar, Bob Paul, Joan Fiske, and Sally Koziar for sharing your wisdom and experience. You are all very different people with different styles and beliefs, but your diversity reflects the diversity we will face in the Deaf and interpreting communities. Ann Hamel, was the first recipient of the Jacob and Iris Wolf Sign Language Interpreting Scholarship. In a letter, Ms. Hamel wrote:
