Description
|
Provides a broad overview of the Internet and teaches
effective ways to use the Internet, such as electronic mail, creating
World Wide Web (WWW) pages, and electronic commerce. This course also
includes a review of TCP/IP, the Internet's networking architecture

Prerequisites
|
CIS 155 with a grade of "C" or better or
consent of instructor.

Outcome
|
For all of the following student competencies, the
level of mastery is moderate; the level of knowledge is to define,
identify, and measure; and the assessment tools will be tests and quizzes,
papers, class participation, cases and projects.
The student should be able to:
- Have a basic understanding of what the Internet is
- Know a brief history of the Internet
- Have a general knowledge of what is available on the
Internet
- Understand some of the terminology of the Internet
- Identify the TCP/IP layers, their components, and
their functions
- Understand the concept of subnets, why they are
needed, and how they are used
- Identify the components of a class B Internet
address in the dotted decimal form
- Give the general form of a hierarchical Internet
name
- Characterize the delivery service provided by IP and
TCP
- Identify the reasons that an application might use
