Q: Can I earn academic credit
for a position I obtain on my own?
A: Yes, You may earn academic credit for an internship
that will provide you with meaningful experience towards your career
goals. You must contact the CIS department internship coordinator
to set up the internship.

Q: Will I get paid during
the internship?
A: Although most CIS internships are paid internships,
not all interns receive pay.

How much will I be paid for an internship?
A: If you are paid a salary, the salary is negotiated
by you and the employer.

Q: What is a typical hourly
wage for an internship?
A: Placements in the past year have earned from seven
to twelve dollars per hour. Although some have worked without
pay.

Q: What if I don't find an
internship until after the semester starts?
A: You may start an internship at any time during the
semester.

Q: Can I complete an internship
although I do not have a work visa?
A: Yes, some employers are willing to allow you to complete
an internship without a work visa.

Q: Must I work 15 hours a
week?
A: No, you must however work a total of 240 hours.
Your schedule is to be decided by you, the employer and the Internship
Coordinator.

Q: What will I do during
my internship?
A: The assignments vary. The tasks to be completed
are determined by the employer in accordance with the intern's skills.

Q: How do I begin the CIS
internship process?
A: First, become familiar with the information at this
site, then submit an internship request form, visit Harper's Career
center (A347) to write or update your résumé, email your résumé
to the appropriate person (see below) using your name for the name
of the attachment file, submit a copy of your transcripts or latest
grade report, and look for possible job opportunities (Career Center,
friends, neighbors, etc.).
