CIS students have diverse backgrounds and life experiences. Some
students have many years experience in the working world. Other
students have taken industry-recognized certification exams. In
order to best serve our students, the CIS department and the Testing
Center utilize a variety of tests that students can take to prove
knowledge and proficiency in the topic of a course.
At this time, there are two main types of test procedures that
students can use to prove their knowledge in order to bypass CIS
courses or to place into a certain CIS course:
1. CIS Bypass, Proficiency, and Placement Tests
The Bypass, Proficiency, and Placement Tests are taken at the
Testing and Assessment Center. These tests allow students with
information technology life experience and self-study to bypass
courses or even to obtain college credit for their knowledge.

and Placement Test information.

2. Certification / Bypass Exams
The Certification Bypass Exams are industry-recognized nationally
administered certification exams. Successfully passing one of
the specified certification exams allows students to bypass one
or more CIS courses.
