OverviewPurposeThe art department offers students a quality education that will prepare them for further studies and participation in art. The art curriculum provides the transfer student with a comprehensive program equivalent to the first two years of most four-year college art programs. It also serves an important role for many visual career programs and for the general college student. Associate of Fine Arts - Art DegreeThe Associate of Fine Arts degree is specifically for studio art majors planning to transfer into a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at a four-year college or university. The AFA degree is designed with a core of art courses and general education courses that match the State of Illinois guidelines for the first two years of college for a fine arts major. This degree allows art majors to transfer into most college and university programs in Illinois with few or no lost credit hours and with status equal to the native university students. Associate in Arts DegreeStudents planning to transfer to art programs other than studio art such as art education or art history should consider an Associate in Arts degree.
