The Department of Music

I am pleased to introduce you to the people and programs of the Department of Music at Harper College, one of America's foremost two-year institutions of higher learning.   Throughout its nearly forty-year history, the Department of Music at Harper has maintained a distinguished tradition of excellence in the cultural life of Chicago's Northwest suburbs.   With a faculty of nearly fifty artists and scholars brought together from institutions throughout the world, every facet of our program is guided by recognized expertise.   Performance faculty in the Department of Music maintain active careers ranging from appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grant Park Orchestra, and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, to a wide variety of professional chamber ensembles and solo appearances.  

Complementing a high level of excellence in performance, the Department of Music maintains a similar tradition of academic excellence.   We are proud of the fact that the Department of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music with recognized transfer programs in music.   The combination of a strong curriculum and a thoroughly dedicated music faculty provides students with the tools for future success and the constant guidance of experienced professionals.
