The Department of Music at Harper College is widely recognized as one of America's foremost music programs among two-year institutions of higher learning. It has offered and maintained a distinguished tradition of excellence thoughout its almost forty-year history. The Department of Music boasts a faculty of over fifty recognized artists and scholars brought together from institutions throughout the world.  Performance faculty maintain active careers ranging from appearances with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grant Park Orchestra, and the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, to a wide variety of professional chamber ensembles and solo appearances both at home and internationally.

The Department of Music is home to a variety of performing groups orchestral, bands, choral ensembles, jazz band, steel drums, guitar ensembles, and various chamber ensembles. Performances are held in our newly dedicated state of the art Performing Arts Center.

The Department of Music maintains a similar tradition of academic excellence. We are proud of the fact that the Department of Music is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music with recognized transfer programs in music.   The combination of a strong curriculum and a thoroughly dedicated music faculty provides students with the tools for future success and the constant guidance of experienced professionals. However, our success is most importantly measured by what we do for you, the students who will be in our classes, studios and performing ensembles. We welcome students of all levels who wish to dedicate themselves to the finest levels of professional preparation.
