B. Charmian Tashjian
B. Charmian Tashjian earned her doctorate and bachelor’s degrees in music composition and theory with a minor in the humanities from Northwestern University and her master’s degree from Stanford University. She has received numerous awards and commissions for her compositions ranging from clarinet solo or flute with chamber ensemble to string quartets or full orchestral works. Her compositions have been performed in concerts and on radio broadcasts throughout the United States, Europe and Australia by various chamber and orchestral organizations including the Ravinia Festival, the Chicago Chamber Musicians, Symphony II, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the DuPage Youth Symphony and many other ensembles. Her music has been published and recorded commercially and her biography is included in the International Who’s Who in Music,Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who of American Women, and the Encyclopedia of Women Composers. Dr. Tashjian was a founder, president and Board member of American Women Composers, Midwest. She has taught classes ranging from music history, music theory and aural skills to acoustics, music appreciation, and Trends in 20th/21st century art and music at Columbia College, Northwestern University, Lake Forest College, and presently at DePaul University and Harper College.
