Brass Audition Requirements
Music major level

Basic skills for all winds: posture, embouchure, right hand position (horn only), understanding music notation.

Trumpet
1. Perform scales (one octavee) from 3 sharps to 3 flats.
2. Perform exercises in A, D, G, C, F, B-flat from the Rubank Intermediate Method Book.
3. One selection from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty): Corelli, Sonata VIII; handel, Sonata; Voxman, Concertand Contest Collection.

Trombone
1. Perform scales (one octavee) from 1 sharp to 5 flats.
2. Perform exercises inG, C, F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, D-flat from the Rubank Intermediate Method Book.
3. One selection from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty):

Tenor trombone: Bach/Fitzgerald, Aria; Bach/Fote, Aire from Suite No.3; Smith (editor) First Solos for Trombone.

Bass trombone: Bartles, Elegy; Marcello, Sonata in F; Tcherepnine, Andante (tuba).

Euphonium (Baritone)
1. Perform scales (one octavee) from 1 sharp to 5 flats if reading bass clef or from 3 sharps through three flats if reading treble clef..
2. Perform exercises in in the above keys as appropriate to the clef from the Rubank Intermediate Method Book (or comparable ).
3. One selection from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty):Same as (tenor) trombone list, also: Bach/Kent, Arioso; Paudert, Fantasie Marziale

Horn
1. Perform scales (one octavee) from 3 sharps through 3 flats.
2. Perform exercises in A, D, G, C, F, B-flat E-flat from the Rubank Intermediate Method Book (or comparable ).
3. One selection from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty): Voxman, French Horn Solos, Levels 1 and 2.

Tuba
1. Perform scales (one octave) from 1 sharp through 5 flats if playing E-flat tube, from 3 sharps through 3 flats if playing C tuba.
2. Perform exercises in the above keys as appropriate to the instrument from the Rubank Intermediate Method Book (or comparable ).
3. One selection from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty): Corelli/Voxman, Sarabande and Gavotte; Handel, sarabande from Concerto in f minor; Stoutmire, Legend.

All auditions are by appointment. To obtain an audition appointment please complete the Department of Music Supplemental Application.
