Music Education
The Department of Music at Harper College does not currently offer courses in Music Education. This is due to the various teacher certification requirements of states across the country and the way Music Education courses are structured and offered at senior colleges and universities .
Music Education is a five-year degree program in most states including Illinois. The number of music education courses required at the lower division (freshman and sophmore level) is small and usually can be integrated into a program of study upon transfer to a senior institution without delaying expected degree completion.
Students in Music Education are encouraged to contact their potential transfer institution as early as possible and speak with the Music Education Coordinator for more specific information. Careful coordination between the student, their academic advisor and the transfer institution's Music Education Coordinator are the key to transferring into Music Education degree programs at senior institutions.
