Woodwind Audition Requirements!
Music major level
Basic skills for all winds: posture, embouchure, understanding music notation
Flute
1. Perform scales (two octaves) from 2 sharps to 2 flats & chromatic scale.
2. Perform exercises in C,G,D,F and B-flat from Rubank Advanced Method Book, Vol. I.
3. One movement from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty): Telemann, Sonata in B-flat; J.S.Bach, Sonata no.4; Boismortier, Sonata in G Op. 19 no.1.
Oboe
1. Perform scales (one octave) from 2 sharps to 2 flats & chromatic scale.
2. Perform exercises in C,G,D,F and B-flat from Rubank Advanced Method Book, Vol. I.
3. One movement from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty): Tessarini, Sonata in B-flat; Handel, Concerto no.1 in B-flat; Albinoni, Concerto in F, Op. 7 no.9.
Clarinet
1. Perform scales (one octave) from 2 sharps to 2 flats & chromatic scale.
2. Perform exercises in C,G,D,F and B-flat from Rubank Advanced Method Book, Vol. I.
3. One movement from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty): Stamitz, Concerto No.3 in B-flat; Molter, Concerto no.3 in B-flat; Krommer, Concerto in E-flat, Op.120 no.2; Schumann, Fantasy-Pieces, Op.73.
Bassoon
1. Perform scales (two octaves) from 2 sharps to 2 flats & chromatic scale.
2. Perform exercises in C,G,D,F and B-flat from Rubank Advanced Method Book, Vol. I.
3. One movement from the following (or of comparable or greater difficulty): Mozart, Sonata in B-flat, K.292; K. Stamitz, Concerto in F; Telemann, Sonata in F minor.
Saxophone
1. All 12 major scales (one or two octaves as practical)
2. Slow and one fast etude from (Voxman selected studies, Ferling 48 studies or comparable book).
3. Repertoire chosen from (or of comparable or greater difficulty): William Grant Still, Romance; Milhaud, Dance; Paule Maurice, Tableaux de Provence, Eugene Bozza, Aria.All auditions are by appointment.
