Resources For Harper Students of Nursing Online and Within the Harper Library

Online Catalog - Click here to search our catalog for books and audiovisual materials in our collection.

We have an extensive and up-to-date collection of Reference books in all areas of Medicine and Nursing. Our Reference collection is where the most current books may be found - Medical and Nursing books have call numbers beginning with the letter "R". We have many of the classic reference books of the medical profession, such as the Physicians' Desk Reference, or, PDR. While you may own many of these books yourself, or they may be available at your place of employment, we encourage you to make use of our collection as well.

  • Use our books while studying on campus.
  • Ask for help at the Reference Desk when you need to explore a topic in further detail.
  • Our collection also features many medical books for the layperson - use these to provide simple advice to patients, or to find out what popular wisdom is saying about a health-related topic.
  • We often own the most current guides to Nursing exams, such as the NCLEX-RN. The newest versions are kept in Reference, but older volumes may be checked out.
  • Don't see what you are looking for in our collection? Make use of Interlibrary Loan.

Of Special Interest in the General Collection:

The Nursing Clinics of North America series - RT 1 .N77 multi-volume.
A quarterly series, each volume relates to one or two specific subjects, with a variety of articles and viewpoints on each topic.

EBSCOhost Databases - Click here, then on "CINAHL", "Academic Search Complete", or either one of the "Health Source" databases to find current magazine/journal articles and other resources. CINAHL stands for the "Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature" and is the best choice for Nursing students.
