Importance of College
I'm sure every high school student has asked themselves, what college should I go to? This seems to be one of the most popular questions among teenagers. The answer to that question is very simple none. Going to college would be a waste of time and money. The kids coming straight out of high school are the one's who make this stupid mistake the most. They just don't think of all the advantages of not going to college.
First of all, the potential to make a lot of money is much higher without college. Look at any professional athlete, sure some of them might have gone to college, but it was just because of sports. So if you are talented in a major sport there is a good chance you will be able to make far more money than even a doctor or a lawyer. For example, an average doctor will make about a hundred thousand per year, in the NBA the minimum salary is a quarter of a million. You also have to factor in the money saved by not going to school. To be a doctor you need eight years of school, at $20,000 per year that's almost two years salary right there. Not to mention if you are very good, that's a few million a year. Where else are you going to get a job right out of college making a few million a year?
Another option that many people overlook is going to trade school. This is sort of like college, but will not have any of the general education courses that a university would have. Since all of these bogus classes will be eliminated. It will only take two years at the most. Many of the skills taught in a trade school are in high demand in the job market. For instance, you could get a degree in some kind of computer science. This is where the big money is at. I know someone who got a degree to be a graphic designer his starting salary was 75 thousand per year. After a few years on the job he is making logos for the NFL. It just goes to show you, there are more than one way of getting an education.
As you can see, it's obvious that your time could be spent better elsewhere, at least for the first year. All that most kids are going to do anyway is go to parties and drink. I sure know that spending $20,000 a year to have a good time is not the smartest way to spend money. If you want a good way to spend money, try investing it in the stock market. This way you don't even need a job. If you pick the right companies it shouldn't be that hard to make the same as a college graduate does. If you invest what you were going to pay for college into the right company, their is a potential of making a lot of money. Say you take to 20 thousand and but a thousand share at 20 dollars a share. Then by the end of the year that companies shares have gone up to 40 dollars per share. If you figure it out you just made 20 thousand dollars profit, plus the 20 grand you initially invested.
Everyone thinks that if you go to college and get good grades you will get a good job. Well, this is not necessarily true. Have you ever heard the saying "it's not what you know, it's who you know."? This is very true in the job market. Just because you are not the most qualified doesn't mean you won't get the job. Knowing someone in the right place can be worth far more than a master's degree. Wouldn't that be a shame if you just spent the last four years at school and every penny you had, only to lose a job to someone who never went to college.
Another thing I could never understand is, why does everyone suddenly think college is essential? Look back at when our parents were kids, most of them didn't go to college, and they all got jobs. Why in the last 20 to 30 years does everyone start getting the idea that you must attend college? I really doubt that all of the employers started saying, we only want to hire people that have graduated from college. I think the job market probably got a little more competitive, so people had to look for and edge over everyone else. I don't know about you but spending about $60.00 for a piece of paper doesn't seen to much of an edge.
If you make the most out of your money the easiest thing to do is just live at home for a little longer. Where else are you going to get free food and shelter? This way, the time you would have been at school, you are living at home with a job. You can't go wrong with this situation. Whatever you are making at your job is almost pure profit since there is no rent and food is free. This way by the time you would have graduated college you can have already put a nice down payment on a house.
What I'm trying to say here is just because someone goes to college doesn't mean that they are going to have some great job. If you play it right you can do just as well as a college graduate with just a high school degree. So given the choice why would anyone choose to waste their time and money at college?
