Grammar References and Style Manuals

The following alphabetical list of reference works is a collection of both grammar books and style manuals. Please be aware that this is not intended to be a comprehensive list. It simply represents those texts with which we in Harper College's Writing Center have the most experience. In addition, some of the reference works, such as The Little, Brown Handbook and The Ready Reference Handbook, are grammar texts as well as style manuals. Finally, the texts Understanding and Using English Grammar, and Focus on Grammar: An Advanced Course for Reference and Practice are particularly useful for nonnative speakers.
