Harper, Motorola Solutions Partnership Up for National Award
Harper College's longstanding collaboration with Motorola Solutions is a finalist for a new award recognizing outstanding college-corporate partnerships nationwide.
The Awards of Excellence, established last year by the American Association of Community Colleges, will be handed out for the first time in April.
Harper's 25-year partnership with Schaumburg-based Motorola Solutions has resulted in customized local and national training for Motorola Solutions professionals; scholarship support for traditional and adult students; monetary awards for distinguished faculty members; and grant funding for Harper's Choice Scholars Institute, a four-week summer program aimed at helping students boost academic skills and succeed at Harper.
"Our partnership with Motorola Solutions has leveraged talent and resources to play a key role in the lives of many students," said Maria Coons, Harper's Executive Director of Workforce and Strategic Alliances. "The opportunity to be recognized for the work that has been done on both sides of this collaboration is an outstanding honor, and it reinforces the value of this partnership and others as we move forward in our goal of student success."
Finalists were chosen in part for the partnership's advancement of economic prosperity, student success and community college advocacy.
"With these new awards, AACC intends to elevate community colleges that are in the vanguard of progressive practices. The awardees will receive national visibility, but the spotlight on their exemplary practices will ultimately benefit all community colleges," said Marie Gnage, chair of the AACC Board of Directors.
The AACC represents the nation's more than 1,100 community, junior and technical colleges and their more than 13 million students.
