Eight new Distinguished Alumni to be inducted

October 20, 2014

Harper College will hold its 2014 Distinguished Alumni Awards, an annual honor saluting former students for outstanding career and community achievements.

The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Wojcik Conference Center on the College's main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine. It will begin with a reception followed by the awards ceremony.

Eight honorees will be recognized:

Robert Bachus, Principal of Geosyntec Consultants

Dr. T. Tylor Behrens, Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean at Southern Methodist University; Vice President/Founder of SkillBott Inc.

Rodney Craig, Hanover Park Mayor

David Gott, Woodfield Mall General Manager

Linda Lang, Retired Harper College Adjunct Faculty and Assistant Speech Team Coach

James P. Meier, Vice President/Senior Project Manager at MeritCorp Group LLC

Dr. Meg Schnoor, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning at Community Consolidated District 15 (Palatine)

Peter Soby Jr., Writer/Director/Producer at Krazy Killah Media

"From the very faculty who taught them to the students learning on the same campus that helped so many alumni get their start, recipients of this award are inspiring others," said Fredia Martin, Director of Alumni Relations and Special Events.

New Distinguished Alumni will return to campus within a year to be a guest speaker or participate in an activity designed to engage students.

The initiative was launched in 2008 as part of Harper's 40th anniversary celebration. To date, 43 individuals including the Class of 2014 have received the Distinguished Alumni Award.
