Harper College will host its first “zero-waste” Coffeehouse Concert featuring Angie
Keilhauer, currently a contestant on NBC’s “The Voice.”
The free concert takes place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in the Student Center Lounge, Building A, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine.
Along with some entertainment, which will also include student performances, attendees will enjoy free refreshments using reusable and recyclable mugs. Zero waste means the College will divert landfill-bound materials to recycling and composting. The idea for a waste-free event stemmed from data collected at Harper’s previous Coffeehouse Concert, which showed just 8 percent of waste from the event was recycled, and just a fraction of that was properly recycled.
According to “The Voice” website, Keilhauer, who’s on Team Blake, emigrated from El Salvador to the United States at age 11, and didn’t pursue music until college. She’s currently a cruise ship singer.
Partners include the Harper College Student Activities Board, the Green Committee, Environmental Club, Mindful Waste, Sodexo, Facilities Management and Student Involvement.
