Harper Digital Badge FAQs
Check here for answers to your questions about digital badges from Harper College
What is a digital badge?
A digital badge is a digital image linked to information that describes what you had to do to earn the right to display the badge. Displaying a digital badge provides a potential employer or anyone with an official record of your achievement in learning specific career skills. Harper College digital badges are awarded when you complete one or more courses related to a particular skill or profession, such as Professional Organizer, Java Programmer, or Physical Therapy Aide.
Is a digital badge like a certificate?
Yes, it's similar. But where a certificate usually gets you a piece of paper, suitable for framing, and not easy to share with others, a digital badge has unlimited possibilities for sharing with others on your website, or your social media profile on LinkedIn, or in a digital copy of your resume that you submit with a job application by email. Digital badges = today. Certificates = yesterday.
How do my "credentials" get displayed as a badge?
When you complete the requirements for your first badge, you will be given instructions for how to set up your Acclaim account and page. All your badges will be displayed there and you will learn how to share them digitally.
What are the benefits of a digital badge?
Certified evidence of your career skills and capabilities.
Harper College has partnered with Pearson Acclaim, the leader in digital badging, to provide you with a convenient way of letting everyone know of your learning achievements. Clicking on your digital badge provides potential employers and others with concrete, authoritative evidence of what you had to do to earn your badge and what you are now capable of doing.
Who is Acclaim?
Acclaim is an initiative of Pearson, the world’s leading learning company. Acclaim works with organizations like Harper College to provide digital credentials to individuals.
How will I know if I’ve earned a badge?
When you complete the requirements for a badge, you will receive an email with instructions for claiming your badge and setting up your account to manage and share your certification.
What if I don’t want my credential to be public?
All information regarding you and your credentials can be easily configured in your Acclaim account. You’re in complete control of the information about yourself that’s made public.
Is there a fee for using Acclaim?
No. Using Acclaim to manage, share and verify your credentials is free to badge earners.
What’s to keep someone else from copying my badge and using it?
While badges are simply digital image files, they are uniquely linked to data hosted on the Acclaim platform. This link to verified data makes them more reliable and secure than a traditional paper-based credential. It also eliminates the possibility of anyone claiming your credential and your associated identity.
Where and how can I share my credential?
Every credential and profile on Acclaim has a unique URL that can be shared from the platform to LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter; via email, embedded in a website or on a resume. You can also add your badge to an email signature.
