Pharmacy Technicians are in High Demand
Employment as a pharmacy technician is expected to increase much faster than in many occupations. The 50-hour Pharmacy Technician Digital Badge program will prepare you to pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam, required in the state of Illinois within two years of becoming employed as a technician. As a technician, you can work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies or other health care settings. Learn the medical terminology specific to pharmacies as well as how to read and interpret prescriptions and define drugs by generic and brand names. Learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement.
PHARMACY TECHNICIAN (LAH 8010): Prepare for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam through a blend of online instruction and classroom sessions in this 50-hour course. Prepare to work under a pharmacist in a variety of settings as you learn medical/pharmacy terminology, dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, prescription dispensing, inventory control, billing, and reimbursement. Students are eligible for an 80-hour clinical externship (background check/drug screening may be required). Students must be 18 years of age or older at the time of enrollment.
