ADULT PIANO

PIANO PLEASURE, BEGINNERS 1 (LMU 0446): This class is designed for students who have had little or no previous experience with piano lessons. Using the Alfred Piano 101 text, students will start at the very beginning and focus on beginning music notation and staff note reading, basic rhythms, finger exercises, and playing short songs in a variety of styles. Instruction includes group activities and individual attention in our state-of-the-art Yamaha Clavinova keyboard lab. Required text: Piano 101, Book 1 by Lancaster & Refrow, published by Alfred.

PIANO PLEASURE, BEGINNERS 2 (LMU 0447): This continuation of Piano Pleasure Beginners 1 will expand on previously learned concepts and will focus on advancing staff reading with key signatures, playing with both hands simultaneously, scale and chord technique, and playing music in a wider range of styles. Students will advance through the Alfred Piano 101 Book 1 text. Prerequisite: Piano Pleasure Beginners 1 or approval of instructor; please contact 847-925-6659 for more information. PIANO PLEASURE, DEVELOPING (LMU 0448): This level of Piano Pleasure will finish the Piano 101 Book 1 and begin Piano 101 Book 2. We will continue progressing through more complex staff reading and moving freely about the keyboard, practicing technical skills such as scales, chords and arpeggios, and moving into intermediate piano repertoire. PIANO PLEASURE, INTERMEDIATE (LMU 0465): Students will continue mastering more advanced piano skills with emphasis on musicianship and repertoire. Pieces comparable to the level of Bach Minuets and Clementi Sonatinas will be covered. We will explore repertoire from classical and jazz genres, as well as technique and theory. Prerequisite: Piano Pleasure Beginners 1 and 2, and Piano Pleasure Developing, or approval of instructor. Please contact 847-925-6659 for more information. 

PIANO REVIVAL CONTINUED (LLI 0123): As a continuation of our Piano Revival class, Levonne Mrozinski will help you master basic piano techniques and develop musicianship and repertoire in a relaxed atmosphere. The class is limited to eight students to ensure plenty of personal attention. If you have not taken Piano Revival, you may enroll in this class with instructor approval. Students will be required to purchase a music book. Class held at Arlington Heights Senior Center. 55+ LLI Program.

ENSEMBLES

PIANO ENSEMBLE (LMU 0433): Provides students with piano proficiency the opportunity to perform in a chamber music ensemble. Stresses sight reading and musicianship. Develops skills, musical understanding and enjoyment. Requires the consent of the instructor. Also offered for Credit as MUS145-C06. 

YOUTH PIANO

GROUP PIANO FOR BEGINNERS I (AGES 6-9) (LMY 0223): Begin your piano journey in a fun-filled group instruction setting! Using the award winning Celebrate Piano! Lesson and Musicianship 1A book, students will start at the very beginning and focus on keyboard geography, beginning music notation, finger exercises, and playing short songs on the piano. Instruction includes group activities and individual attention in our state-of-the-art Yamaha Clavinova keyboard lab. Students must have an instrument at home for daily practice. Materials purchased separately.

GROUP PIANO FOR BEGINNERS I (AGES 9-12) (LMY 0224): Begin your piano journey in a fun-filled group instruction setting! Using the highly regarded Faber Accelerated Piano Adventures Lesson and Theory books 1 for older beginners, students will focus on learning the key names, beginning music notation and staff reading, finger exercises, and playing short songs on the piano. Instruction includes group activities and individual attention in our state-of-the-art Yamaha Clavinova keyboard lab. Students must have an instrument at home for daily practice. Materials purchased separately.

GROUP PIANO FOR BEGINNERS II (AGES 6-9) (LMY 0225): This continuation of Group Piano for Beginners 1 will expand on previously-learned concepts and focus on advanced staff reading, intervals of 2nds and 3rds, hand shape and finger development, playing music in a variety of characters and styles, and creative activities. No new materials needed. 

GROUP PIANO FOR BEGINNERS II (AGES 9-12) (LMY 0226): This continuation of Group Piano for Beginners 1 will expand on previously-learned concepts and focus on hands-together playing, advanced staff reading, intervals of 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, and 5ths, hand shape and finger development, playing music in a variety of characters and styles, and creative activities. No new materials needed.
