JUDO AND SELF-DEFENSE (LPE 0178): Learn how to protect yourself using practical self-defense techniques! Suitable for men and women alike, the focus of this course will be on avoiding and escaping the clutches of an attacker. After 11 weeks, you will follow your self-defense training with an introduction to Judo, one of the most popular and practical forms of martial arts. You will gain a basic understanding of Judo including proper training methods, physical conditioning techniques and rules and regulations for contests. This course requires the purchase of a judogi, the judo uniform for practice and competition from the instructor (cost is $40). Continue your Judo training with Judo II (course LPE0179). The judogi can also be used in Judo II. Also offered for credit KIN162-C01. Class held at Harper Main Campus.
TAE KWON DO (LPE 0020): American-style Tae Kwon Do is a health system that stresses physical fitness, mental disciple, self-confidence, and self-defense. This class allows you to develop at your own pace. Beginners learn foundation movements with basic hand and foot techniques. Advanced students continue with physical conditioning, advanced techniques, and free-style fighting. Classes are open to individuals 15 years of age and older. Classes held at HEWR.
YOUTH TAE KWON DO (LPK 0020): American style Tae Kwon Do helps children develop self-confidence and and self-defense. Coordination skills improve as self-defense and basic hand and foot techniques are learned and developed. Classes start at age 4 and continue through 14. Classes held at HEWR.
