in history. Wear denim on Wednesday, April 24, and stop by an information and resource table, as a visible means of protest against
the misconceptions that surround sexual violence, and to help stop victim blaming
and harmful destructive myths around this serious public health problem in the United
States.

and Safety Day! This community event will feature discussions on drone applications
across various sectors, regulations, and the safe operation of drones for recreational
and commercial purposes. This event will be part of the FAA’s annual Drone Safety
Day campaign.

The event kicks off with a series of dynamic 15-minute talks between 12 p.m. and 2:45
p.m. in Building D, Room 195, featuring experts using drone technology in different
domains. Demonstrations will take place between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. All are welcome

Owls as Icons in History from the Ancient Near East to the present Tuesday, April 23, 2024

Through a millennia of nightfalls, many cultures have been looking over their shoulders
for owls. In some societies, owls are symbols of wisdom and fertility. In other cultures,
their hoots are harbingers of death and doom. Join award-winning naturalist Mark Spreyer
as he surveys centuries of contradictory traits assigned to these nocturnal hunters. Emphasis on the cultural symbolism of owls will also be
presented.

Joyland, the 2022 debut film from Saim Sadiq received a standing ovation at the Cannes Film
Festival. “The debut feature from writer-director Saim Sadiq, Joyland, explores the
many sides of love and desire in a patriarchal society. Gentle and timid, Haider (Ali
Junejo) lives with his wife Mumtaz (Rasti Farooq), his father, and his elder brother’s
family in Lahore, Pakistan. Following a long spell of unemployment, Haider finally
lands a job at a Bollywood-style burlesque, telling his family he is a theater manager,
when in actuality he is a backup dancer. The unusual position shakes up the steadfast
traditional dynamics of his household and enables Haider to break out of his shell.
As he acclimates to the new job, Haider becomes infatuated with the strong-willed
trans woman Biba (Alina Khan) who runs the show—an unforeseen partnership that opens
his eyes and ultimately his worldview, in ways both unexpected and intimate.” — Oscilloscope

Harper College offers a Lyft Pass Program to most Harper students. This program provides
discounted rides to and from Harper College. Receive $10 off eight rides per month.
Rides must begin or end at either the Harper College campus in Palatine or the Harper
College Learning and Career Center in Prospect Heights. Valid on standard Lyft rides
only.
Harper College students who are enrolled in credit-classes, adult education classes,
English as a second language classes, apprenticeship programs and dual credit classes
are eligible to participate. The program is not currently available for students enrolled

Pace Bus Route 697 now serves Harper College. This fixed route provides weekday service from Pace's
Northwest Transportation Center in Schaumburg to Harper College in Palatine. The bus
stop on campus is located on Barbara Barton Drive near Parking Lot 2A, and the Performing
Arts Center (Building R).
