Welcome, Harper Hawks! You’re at the beginning of a new and exciting path towards achieving your educational goals. Starting at a new school, however, can be a bit overwhelming. Between finding your classes, knowing where to park and learning about campus events, there’s a lot to take in, but have no fear – we’re here to help. Check out answers to some of our most frequently asked questions below and get ready for a great semester and beyond at Harper College.

1. When and where are my classes?

To find class times and locations, simply login to your MyHarper Portal and look at the "My Class Schedule" section in the center of your screen. Your schedule will show all the class times and locations. Please note, some classes are "late start" meaning they will not start until later in the semester. You can tell which week a course begins by looking at the line with the class time and location. There you'll see a date range, which indicates the week the course begins.

2. Did you know, Harper has more than one campus?

Most classes are on the main campus in Palatine, but if you see HPC or LCC on your schedule, those classes are at the Harper Professional Center (HPC) in Schaumburg or the Learning and Career Center (LCC) in Prospect Heights. Get directions to all of our sites.

3. How do I find buildings and classrooms?

Download the Harper College mobile app for Android and iOS. The interactive campus maps can help you pinpoint a location.

4. How do I know which books I need and where do I get them?

In most cases, you can find the books you need through your "Class Schedule" in the MyHarper Portal. You'll see a link that says "buy books." This link will take you to a book list at the HarperStore. Once you're on this page, you'll be able to view the required and recommended books. You'll also be able to purchase or rent books from this page.

5. Where can I park?

Free parking is available across campus, including in the parking garage on levels 1, 3 or 4. Look for a spot with yellow lines; red-lined spaces are reserved. Pro Tip: Leave a little early to get to campus on time. There can be a lot of traffic the first week of classes, so it¹s always best to leave a little early. You don¹t want to be late the first day!

6. Where can I eat?

There’s a cafeteria on the first level of the Student Center (Building A) and Common Grounds, a coffee shop on the second level. We also have a Subway (Avanté) and Starbucks (Building D). Vending machines are located across campus.

7. What’s new on campus?

The Library and Academic Support Centers are now open in the Hill Family Library, Building F. Stop in for rental materials, group study rooms and free academic support like tutoring, study skills and writing assistance. The Foglia Foundation Health and Recreation Center, Building M will open on August 20. This completely renovated building features classrooms, student study spaces, a new fitness facility, upgraded pool, basketball, indoor track, facilities for Harper Hawks athletics and the Northwest Community Healthcare Care Clinic.

8. Where can I find events happening on campus?

Campus events can be found on our web calendar. Whether it’s a bags tournament in the quad, a guest speaker, a free outdoor movie, or a theatre performance by the Harper Ensemble Theatre Company, there’s always something to do at Harper.

9. Where can I smoke on campus?

In accordance with state law, Harper is a Smoke-Free Campus. This policy requires everyone to refrain from smoking or using e-cigarettes/vaping on campus.

10. Is Harper College on social media?

Yes! You can find us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and Spotify! Be sure to use the hashtag #WeAreHarper to join in on the conversation.
