Finding What Works: Strive for Harmony Rather than Balance

While there is no perfect solution, recipe or magic pill for helping a person achieve their wellness goals, below are a few suggestions on how you might jumpstart some of those habits, and ultimately, improve your overall well-being in the new decade. You don’t know what works until you try it, so I’m providing a few of my own personal tips, tricks and things to think about if you’re looking to improve some of your wellness habits:Photo of student holding up a white board with writing from various people about what wellness means to them.

Strive for Harmony Rather than Balance: There are 8 dimensions of wellness, and not all of those dimensions are going to be equally balanced as everyone is different. Your interests, body, and priorities are most likely going to change as time goes on but this doesn’t give you an automatic out to stop taking care of yourself. Every wellness dimension will not be perfectly balanced so it’s important to focus on finding a harmony that works best for you. Maybe one person is able to exercise for an hour while another person can only fit in 30 minutes of walking at lunchtime because that is the only time available during the day. Focus less on finding a perfect balance to your wellness, and instead, focus on a harmony that fits best for you given your current circumstances.
