Harper College offices will be closed Monday, September 2 in observance of Labor Day.
Harper College held a ribbon cutting ceremony on February 8 to officially dedicate
the new Center for Student Veterans and Military-Connected Students and recognize the College’s ongoing efforts to expand services aimed at increasing
student veterans’ success.
The center opened last year with the help of an anonymous $80,000 grant supporting
the College’s work and a $10,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation and Student
Veterans of America to transform the space.
As a result of Harper’s increased commitment to better serving this population of
students, there has been a significant increase in credentials earned among student
veterans and military-connected students. The new center also drew more than 500 visits
last semester from students seeking specialized services, support or just a space
to gather socially.
Activities geared toward engaging veterans have included resume writing and interview
workshops, community service projects and attendance at the Student Veterans of America
national conference.
Harper College also recently earned the 2017-2018 Military Friendly School designation, a comprehensive resource provided to service members and their families
to help them select an institution that will best help them pursue a civilian career.
