Harper Radio has 7 finalist entries in annual IBS Media Awards

Harper College’s WHCM has seven finalists announced for the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System’s 2023-24 Awards. Harper Radio is once again a finalist for Best Community College Radio Station, an honor WHCM took home at the previous ceremony.

Other finalists include Harper students Matt Byrne, Ricardo Garcia, Erica Berger and Yari Lopez, alum Carsen Star and faculty advisor Brian L. Shelton.

“We’re so fortunate to have so many talented students, alumni and volunteers making media at WHCM,” Shelton said. “It’s an honor for us to be recognized for doing radio differently.”

WHCM, which can be heard at 88.3 FM or harperradio.com, is also a finalist in the Chicago Reader’s annual Best of Chicago online poll, competing against Chicago radio stations such as WXRT and WBEZ. The poll is open through January 14, 2024.

Best of Chicago winners will be announced on February 22, 2024. IBS winners will be revealed at the organization’s New York City conference on March 2, 2024.
