Harper College will be closed Monday, September 1, in observance of Labor Day.
Once again, Harper Radio has been recognized as one of the best radio stations in
Chicago and among community colleges nationwide. Both the Chicago Reader and the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) have named WHCM (88.3 FM) as a
finalist for their respective competitions.
The Reader has named Harper Radio as a finalist for Best Overall Radio Station in the publication’s annual Best of Chicago poll. WHCM is one of five radio stations to make the final cut and is competing against powerhouses such as WBEZ and WXRT.
The Reader poll is open through midnight on Wednesday, December 31. Winners will be published in the Best of Chicago issue next year. Vote here for Harper Radio in the poll’s City Life section.
In addition, Harper Radio is a finalist in three categories at the annual IBS Awards. WHCM is up for Best Community College Radio Station (an award the station won in 2023), plus student Yari Lopez is nominated for her Foreign Language Program, “La Y Méx Radio,” and Harper instructor Erik Hanson is nominated for Best Community Volunteer Program/Personality.
“In a year where WHCM is celebrating 25 years as an FM radio station, it’s great to see our work recognized by our peers,” said Brian Shelton, Harper Radio’s faculty advisor.
The winners of this year’s IBS Awards will be announced February 21 in New York City.
