Harper invites community to Trunk or Treat on October 30

Crowds fill a past version of Harper College's Trunk or Treat event

Trunkloads of candy, the Haunted Hospital and some spooky surprises await families at Harper College’s annual Trunk or Treat celebration on Friday, October 30.

The free event – scheduled for 5-7 p.m. in Lot 3 and the nearby Avanté Center on Harper’s Palatine campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road – invites community members of all ages to enjoy Halloween festivities in a safe, welcoming environment.

This year’s event features easier access, with no designated entry points to Lot 3. Free parking is available in Lots 2 and 4. Visitors are encouraged to stop by the welcome tent near the Avanté steps to pick up a glow wand and learn more about the festivities.

Presented by the Harper College Police Department in partnership with Campus Recreation and Community Relations, Trunk or Treat features a collection of creatively decorated vehicle trunks hosted by Harper student clubs and programs, community organizations, and community police and fire departments. Costumed children can visit the trunks to collect candy and other Halloween treats. But the festivities extend well beyond trick-or-treating.

Younger trick-or-treaters who aren’t quite ready for the spooky experience can enjoy nearby interactive activities while their siblings explore the haunted halls.

New this year, Harper’s Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Club will present Spooky Science, featuring Halloween-themed activities designed to surprise and delight budding scientists.

Families can enjoy hot chocolate and apple cider, available while supplies last.

Attendees are encouraged to support Harper students by bringing donations for the Hawks Care Resource Center Pantry, which provides food and personal care essentials to students in need. Requested items include granola bars, macaroni and cheese, instant ramen, pasta, rice, cereal and unopened jars of peanut butter or jelly in non-glass containers.

Trunk or Treat is open to all. For more information, visit Harper’s Trunk or Treat webpage.
