Nursing Program Health Requirements
Health Requirements for Entry into Clinical Experience
To be eligible for clinical placement, you must meet the following requirements before
starting the Nursing Program and maintain them throughout your enrollment.
Physical Exam
- Signed and dated by a health care provider within the current year.
Tuberculosis (TB) Screening
- Two-step TB skin test (TST) completed before admission, then repeated annually.
- A positive screening result may require a QuantiFERON-Gold test (annually) or a chest
X-ray (every 5 years).
- If you have a history of a positive TB test, consult with a provider before doing
any testing.
Immunity Titers — Mumps, Rubella, Rubeola (Measles), Varicella
- A laboratory report showing positive immunity is required for each.
- Proof of vaccination alone is not accepted — a titer is required.
- If you are not immune, you must begin the immunization series at least one month before
classes begin. Do not receive these vaccines until the two-step TST is complete.
Hepatitis B
- A positive hepatitis B surface antibody blood test is required.
- If not immune, complete the vaccine series and retest 6 weeks after the final dose.
The series is repeated if immunity is still not shown.
Influenza
Tdap
- Received within the past 10 years.
Health Insurance
- Coverage must be in effect for the entire period you are scheduled for clinical experience.
Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Current American Heart Association BLS Provider certification is required before starting
the program and must be maintained at all times. Renew before the card's expiration
date.
Clinical Regulatory Requirements
- Complete all required online courses by the posted due date.
Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry
- You must remain on the registry for the duration of the program.
Please note: Failure to submit documentation on time may delay your clinical placement and your
progression in the program. Clinical placements cannot be guaranteed for students
who have not met all health requirements.
