Language, Culture, and Connection: A Costa Rica Experience
Travel Dates: March 19 - 27, 2027
Take your Spanish beyond the classroom and experience Costa Rica through its language, culture, and people. This immersive spring break program gives beginning Spanish students the opportunity to practice their language skills in authentic, everyday settings while exploring some of Costa Rica's most beautiful regions. In partnership with Universidad Nacional, Campus Sarapiquí, you'll combine Spanish instruction with cultural experiences, community engagement, and travel to destinations such as San José, La Fortuna, Puerto Viejo, and Cahuita. Whether ordering a meal, chatting with local residents, or discovering Costa Rican traditions, you'll build confidence in your Spanish while developing the intercultural skills that come from living the language.
SPA 101 and SPA 102 develop students’ foundational skills in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Spanish while introducing them to the cultures and communities of the Spanish-speaking world.
During the study abroad experience in Costa Rica, you will move beyond practicing Spanish only in the classroom and use your developing language skills in authentic settings. Through interactions with local students and community members, cultural activities, travel, and everyday experiences, you will build confidence communicating in Spanish while gaining a deeper understanding of Costa Rican culture and daily life.
