WordPress is the world’s leading blogging tool, offers tremendous flexibility and ease of use. And it’s free! This class will walk you through the process of setting up your blog site and making your first blog entry, or post. Basic blogging options and techniques will be reviewed to encourage you to continue a successful journey in writing online. Students can continue learning intermediate and advanced techniques through WordPress tutorials or additional classes. Regardless of past writing experience, students will gain confidence to share their views on anything from apple picking to zebra prints.
INTRODUCTION TO WORDPRESS (LCT 0590): Learn how to create a basic blog and web pages with WordPress.com. Hands-on exercises
walk students through using the Dashboard, creating pages, posts, and custom menus
along with adding images, links, videos, and a photo gallery. Course also covers moderating
comments, creating user accounts, and simple theme changes. Prerequisite: Familiarity
with the PC/Windows environment.
WORDPRESS CERTIFICATE - ONLINE (LRN 7116): WordPress is the planet’s most popular content management system (CMS) for website and blog design. Topics include an introduction to CMS, WordPress installation and setup, page and content creation, site administration, themes (selection, purchase, installation and setup), working with widgets and plugins, and more. Only available as a Certificate (classes are not available individually). Classes include: 1. Website Setup, 2. WordPress Fundamentals, and 3. Advanced WordPress.
1. WEBSITE SETUP - ONLINE: You will learn all the initial steps and required elements for establishing a website:
registering a domain name, selecting a hosting company, pointing your domain to the
host, and getting ready for design and develop your site in WordPress.
2. WORDPRESS FUNDAMENTALS - ONLINE: WordPress is the most popular content management system (CMS) for website and blog design. After successfully completing this course, you will know how to build a simple WordPress website or blog. Topics include an introduction to CMS, WordPress installation and setup, page and content creation, site administration, themes (selection, purchase, installation and setup), and working with widgets and plugins.
3. ADVANCED WORDPRESS - ONLINE: This class is for those who have learned how to setup a WordPress website. Now it’s time to learn the many advanced options and features of WordPress. You will learn how to modify WordPress web pages by hand-coding and simple yet effective search engine optimization (SEO) techniques that improve your website ranking. Also covered are on-going site maintenance and site security.
