Sadie Hochman-Ruiz (she/her) is an artist, activist, researcher, and educator. She earned her PhD in Music from The University of California San Diego.
Her research centres on histories of drag performance and the role transgender women have played in drag communities. As a drag performer and a transwoman herself, she specializes in a community-invested research which prioritizes collaboration and knowledge mobilization. Her research has been published in MUSICultures and Critical Studies in Media Communication.
She has performed as both a drag queen and a punk musician across Canada and the US. Along with musical collaborator Hillary Jean Young, her group masc4masc released their debut record “Not Another Queer Movie” through People Places Records.
