The Harper Piano Ensemble ranges from 10 to 14 players, and is open to all Harper students (regardless of major), faculty, staff and community members. The group's repertoire ranges from original classics and arrangements of orchestral music to popular and jazz styles.
Piano Ensemble concerts showcase duets, trios, quartets and more on multiple acoustic pianos, including three Steinway concert grand pianos. Membership in the ensemble requires an audition.
Students must be at an intermediate or advanced level of piano performance with at least 3-4 years of classical training. Previous ensemble experience is not required. Examples of minimum repertoire requirements are easier Bach Inventions and the Clementi Sonatinas, Op. 36. Students must show proficiency in sight-reading in both bass and treble clefs.
Students must be willing to rehearse with ensemble partner(s) outside of class.
