Careers in Music

As a world-renowned cultural hub, the Chicago area offers numerous opportunities for musicians, sound engineers/editors, composers and teachers/tutors.

Professional musicians play in band or orchestra, work as studio musicians, or perform as stage acts. You may also create music for advertisements, tv, radio, movies, and video games.

As an audio or video technician, you would be responsible for setting up and operating equipment during performances. Or, if you prefer working with recorded music, you could pursue a career as a film and video editor, sound engineer, or music director.

If you're more interested in teaching music, you could become a music teacher or tutor. Music therapy is another option for those who want to use music to help others.
