Leslye S. Smith, Professor of Radiologic Technology/History and Radiologic Technology Coordinator at Harper College, has taken that commitment further by establishing the Albert and Charlotte Aronson Memorial Scholarship in 2016, ensuring that students with academic excellence, a passion for service, and clear career aspirations have the support they need to thrive.

Named in honor of her parents, Albert and Charlotte Aronson, the scholarship reflects their values—a love for learning, a commitment to giving back, and the importance of setting ambitious goals. Her father, a first-generation college student, was a strong advocate for higher education and believed in the transformative power of learning, a belief that continues to inspire Leslye both in and out of the classroom.

The scholarship supports high-achieving students who demonstrate academic excellence, dedication to community service, and strong career ambitions. It serves as recognition of their hard work and potential. Leslye's family members, including her sister, son, daughter, niece, and nephew, also contribute to the scholarship, reinforcing their shared commitment to supporting future generations.

As the founder of Harper's Radiologic Technology Program, Leslye has spent her career developing opportunities for students to grow academically and professionally. She ensures that her health career students engage in community service, reinforcing the importance of giving back.

"I think the idea of community service and giving back is really important...I hope my scholarship recipients find a way to give back, whether through their careers in healthcare or by supporting future students," she shared. Through this scholarship, she hopes to inspire students to pursue their goals, give back, and create a lasting impact in their communities.
