Through the University Center at Harper College, you can earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Roosevelt University. Roosevelt faculty teach program courses at Harper’s campus, combining education coursework with extensive classroom-based experiences.

Grounded in Roosevelt University’s mission of social justice and commitment to educational equity, culturally responsive teaching is embedded throughout the program’s coursework and clinical experiences.

After successfully completing the degree program and all state licensure requirements, you will be eligible to apply for an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Elementary Education endorsement for grades 1-6.

Prepare to work effectively, equitably, and collaboratively with culturally and linguistically diverse students and families, including multilingual learners and students with disabilities.
Complete three progressively structured, 50-hour field experiences, advancing from classroom observation to small-group and whole-class instruction with faculty and cooperating-teacher guidance.
Complete a 15-week student-teaching experience with guidance from a cooperating teacher and university supervisor, gaining the confidence and practical skills to begin your teaching career.

Career possibilities

Upon graduation, you will be prepared to work as an elementary teacher in Illinois public and private schools. With careful academic planning and additional coursework, you may also pursue endorsements in:

English as a Second Language (ESL)
Special Education (LBS I)

These endorsements expand your employment opportunities by qualifying you for ESL, special education, inclusion, and co-teaching positions—in addition to regular elementary classroom positions. They also prepare you to effectively serve multilingual learners and students with diverse learning needs.

2.7 GPA or higher
Completion of an Associate in Arts degree or Associate in Science degree
