As a partner of the Harper University Center, DePaul University offers the opportunity for you to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Media on site at Harper College. As a Communication and Media major, you will take courses from a variety of programs in the College of Communication: Human Communication, Media and Popular Culture, Digital Communication, Journalism, Organizational Communication, and Public Relations and Advertising.

In the College of Communication, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of the complex and challenging communication practices and processes that characterize our rapidly changing world. You’ll master the techniques for crafting and delivering messages across a variety of social contexts and platforms: face-to-face, print, audio, video, web, and other social media.

Admission requirements

  • 2.0 GPA or higher
  • Minimum 45 semester hours earned prior to admission
  • Completion of Associate in Arts degree is highly recommended
  • Suggested courses:
    • Completion of these Harper College courses
      • MCM 120
      • MCM 130
      • MCM 233
    • Completion of one of the following:
      • SPE 200
      • SPE 205
      • SPE 215

Recommended courses prior to admission

Students planning to enroll in the Communication and Media degree at Harper University Center are strongly encouraged to complete the IAI general education requirements as well as the equivalents to the DePaul courses listed below before enrolling in the program.

The courses listed here are DePaul courses; work with your Harper academic advisor to identify Harper equivalents.

  • CMN 102 Intro to Mass Communication
  • CMN 104 Public Speaking
  • PRAD 244 Principles of Advertising OR PRAD 255 Public Relations
  • JOUR 275 Intro to Journalism

DePaul admission process

  • Cohorts officially begin each fall quarter in September.
  • Submit an application at depaul.edu/apply, selecting "Harper University Center" when prompted on the Partnerships and Agreements page of the application.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities where you have previously enrolled.
  • There is no application fee for this program.
  • You do not need to have attended Harper College for admission to this program.
  • Once your application is complete and you have been admitted, you will be contacted by the DePaul academic advisor to schedule an initial advising appointment.
