NIU Bachelor of Arts graduation requirements

To successfully complete the Bachelor of Arts degree, you must demonstrate competence in a foreign language. This requirement can be met by one of the following:

  • College level: Complete a four-semester sequence in a traditional foreign language at the college level. The most cost-effective way to do this is to complete these courses at Harper before beginning the NIU program. You could also take these courses through NIU; however, NIU does not bring language classes to Harper as part of its University Center courses. 
  • High school level: Complete four full years of a foreign language with a grade of C or better in the fourth year at an accredited high school.
  • Test option: Demonstrate competence equal to the work required in the most advanced course in either the high school or college sequence listed above. This test is administered through the NIU Office of Testing Services.

NIU Bachelor of Science graduation requirements

To successfully complete the Bachelor of Science degree, you must demonstrate competence in laboratory science / mathematical / computational skills.  

  • If you are seeking a B.S. degree, see an advisor to determine which sequence to complete and which additional courses may be required for your major. 
  • This requirement can be met with college-level coursework. Complete a four-semester sequence listed in the undergraduate catalog with a 2.0 GPA. The most cost-effective way to do this is to complete these courses at Harper before beginning the NIU program. You could also take these courses through NIU; however, NIU does not bring these additional classes to Harper as part of its University Center courses.
