Massage and Napping Chairs

Massage and napping chairs are open to students, faculty, staff, and Health and Recreation Center members and available to use in 30-minute increments at the Rec Center mezzanine.

The chairs are designed to enhance blood flow and relieve tension in muscles by providing a gentle massage, which targets the neck to the glutes. Key features include:

  • Quad roller
  • Heat therapy to lumbar and calves
  • Compression massage for hips and legs
  • 8 massage techniques

Did you know that napping can boost alertness, improve mood, and enhance memory and learning by giving the brain a chance to rest and reset? Even a short nap of 20–30 minutes can increase productivity and reduce stress.

Students using massage and napping chairsGuidelines for usage

  • Time limits
    • Maximum usage time: 30 minutes per session
    • One session per day per person
  • Cleanliness and hygiene
    • Use the provided wipes to clean the chair before and after use
    • Avoid using the chair if you're visibly sweaty or unwell
  • Noise and devices
    • Keep noise to a minimum – this is a quiet relaxation/napping space
    • Use headphones if playing music or guided meditation
    • Please silence your phone.
  • Safety and eligibility
    • For student, faculty, staff and Health and Recreation Center member use only
  • Do not use the chair if you:
    • Have a pacemaker or serious medical condition
    • Are pregnant (check with your doctor first)
    • Are under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, stop use immediately and alert staff
  • Respect for others
    • No food or drinks in the chair
    • Be mindful of time – others may be waiting
  • Maintenance issues
    • If the chair is not working properly, please notify staff right away
    • Report any damage or cleanliness concerns
