Harper is excited to welcome families back to campus for this annual interactive event. Roll up your sleeves and explore the sciences, math, technology, liberal arts and other fields. Experience fields of study and careers through events and activities geared toward students of all ages.

9 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Avanté Center, Building X and Career and Technical Education Center

Park in Lot 3 or the parking garage

  • Learn about 21st century careers.
  • Enjoy over 40 hands-on activities and demonstrations conducted by Harper faculty and staff and community organizations in various areas of interest.
  • Meet Harper faculty who teach in the sciences, technology, health careers, liberal arts and other fields.
  • Experience classroom labs and get a firsthand look at life as a Harper student

This event is FREE and open to the community. Registration is not required. Refreshments will be served. Be sure to check back for updates on activities and participating organizations.

LED Fun Time

Ever wonder how light bulbs work? How LEDs work? Join Harper's Physics 121 students and play around with lights of all kinds as we build LED circuits with Play-Doh, make our own light bulbs, play with LED throwies and more. How de-LIGHT-ful!  

Experiences in Light and Color

Holograms, spectrograms, chromatography and more!  See how light, and other things, really are made up of the rainbow of colors. Observe fun demonstrations and create some simple science instruments to take home. 

Bridge Building Challenge

Compete in a design-build challenge by building bridges using only toothpicks and Gummi bears, and then test your bridges by loading them with Starburst. 

Fossil Explorations

Explore fossils from throughout Earth's history in our geology lab.  

Math Activity Room

Enjoy a variety of mathematically themed games and activities, designed to appeal to students and adults of all ages.

Learn about the importance of pollinators in our local ecosystems. Make your own seed bombs to attract pollinators to your home. Enjoy pollinator crafts and information handouts and tour the Solarium.

Kitchen Science: Strawberry DNA - Every 30 minutes from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

What is DNA?  What is its role in our cells?  Learn more about this important molecule and how to extract DNA from a strawberry with common household ingredients.          

Fabulous Fibers

Experiment with an assortment of fabric types by testing what will dye them different colors.  Will all dyes add color to all fibers?  Does it matter if the fibers are synthetic or made from natural products?  Stop by to experiment and find out!

Sticky Situations
Location: Z316
Glue is used to bind things together. You can buy commercial synthetic (human made) glue, or you can make your own non-toxic glue from renewable materials (plants) that will biodegrade. In this activity you will make your own glue from flour, cornstarch, and water. Then you will test your glue against a store-bought glue.

Can you solve the crime with the clues that have been left behind? Learn about careers in law enforcement, justice administration and forensics.

Tour where students get hands-on experience while working with more than 100 pieces of major residential and commercial equipment, automation systems and building control systems.

Manufacturing and Metal Fabrication Lab Tour

Learn about the projects taking place in our manufacturing lab, as well as the top-tier technology we use to complete them.

Computer Drawing with Sketch Up

Use computer software to create your own custom drawings.
