Harper College will host Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Black History on Thursday, March 12, featuring a nationally recognized mobile museum, live performances
and interactive experiences that bring history to life. The free event runs 10 a.m.-4
p.m. in the Wojcik Conference Center and Amphitheater, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine.
The program will feature keynote speaker Dr. Khalid el-Hakim, founder of the Black History 101 Mobile Museum, who will present an interactive display of rare historical artifacts that highlight the Black experience in the U.S. Attendees will also enjoy live performances by musician-historian Chris Vallillo and Connie Martin, whose work explores hidden messages in Negro spirituals and the Underground Railroad through music and storytelling.
Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Black History is presented by Harper’s Division of Business and Social Science. The event is open to all and will be preceded by a continental breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Convenient parking is in Lot 14, near the Roselle Road entrance to campus. RSVP to attend.
