Text description of the Buildings D, E and G tour

This tour contains six panoramic images related to the Buildings D, E and G at Harper College. This section describes each of these images and the content of the tour.

You are standing near the bust of William Rainey Harper at the center of campus, facing northeast toward the Building D rotunda's windowed main entrance.

To your left are sidewalks to Buildings E, C and P. The sidewalk to Building E has stairs closer to Building D, and a long ramp closer to Building C.

To your right is the sidewalk to Buildings H and X.

Behind you in the entry way to the Library (Building F) and Building L. For Building L, there are groundfloor doors, as well as second level doors, which are up a tall tiered stairway.

You're outside facing the Building E entrance, which has a small tree and a light pole in a planter in front of the doors.

To your left is the Gerard Singer sculpture Permutant-Modular Sculpture (1983). Colored ferro-concrete, 12’ x 24’ x 23’, Gift of the artist (1989). This modular sculpture by French artist Gerard Singer depicts a primitive, barren terrain inspired by drawings of landscape elevations. Singer has said he would like his artworks to “soften” the transition between nature and architecture, eliminating the harsh contrasts that exist between modern, technological environments and their natural surroundings. Permutant was shown at the International Art Show of contemporary sculpture at Navy Pier, and was donated to the College in 1989 by the artist and the Ministere des Relations Exterieures, France.

Beyond the sculpture to your left is Building A, and there is a walk way between Buildings A and E heading north, and heading south is a tall outdoor staircase leading up to the Buildings A and C entrances.

To your right, a sidewalk leads to the Building D rotunda and the outdoor quad at the center of campus.

Behind you is Building C, which is a long bring building that sits at the top of a small hill.

You are standing in the center of the Building D rotunda, which is the round, sun-filled main entrance to Building D. It's not shown in the image, but the rotunda is filled with comfortable chairs, and often hosts events or information tables. Seating along the round overlook of the second floor is also visible. You are facing south toward the doors that lead outside.

To your left is a stairway behind doors, a hallway that leads east toward most of the classrooms, offices and the student lounge, as well as water fountains. The Library is visible in the distance.

To you right, is a glassy wall, with building C, A and E visible in the distance.

Behind you is a revolving door exit to the north end of campus (near the outdoor pavilion). There is also an elevator, and tucked away behind that is a hallway that takes you east toward Building E.

You are standing facing north toward the Drs. Kenneth and Catherine Ender Pavilion, which is on the north end of campus. The Ender Pavilion has a short staircase leading up to a stage area that is covered by a large white canopy. There are long ramps on either side of the stage. Behind the pavilion is a campus lake.

To your left is an open area, lined by Buildings D, E and W (in the distance). On the other side of the grassy area is the campus lake.

To your right is an open grassy area, with Building D's east end disappearing behind some lakeside trees.

Behind you is an entrance to the Building D rotunda. There is a ramp and a small outdoor patio just outside the entrance.

You are in the student lounge at the east end of Building D. You are facing north toward a large, two-story windowed wall. There are tables and chairs at various sizes and configurations.

To your left (east) is an entrance to Starbucks, which is closed for renovations during Summer 2025.

To your right (west) is a counter with high tops and trash cans. Just beyond the counter is a doorway leading outside, as well the entrances to two large lecutre halls, D193 and D195.

Behind you (south) is an exit that leads to Building H and a stairwell. Next to that, is the hallway that leads toward the rotunda.

You are outside, facing southwest toward the automobile entrance to the parking garage, Building G. A skybridge connects the parking garage with Buildings H and D.

To your left (southeast) is the campus road Kris Howard Drive leading toward the Algonquin Road exit.

To your right (northwest) is the campus road Kris Howard Drive leading toward the Euclid exit.

Behind you (northeast) is a wooded area adjacent to the Craig Stettner Prairie.
