QuantiFERON TB

Gold Blood Test

Blood test that aids in the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria which causes tuberculosis (TB). A positive QuantiFERON-TB Gold result means that the person has been infected with TB bacteria and should be followed by further medical and diagnostic evaluation to determine if the person has latent TB infection or TB disease.

For students who test positive for Tuberculin exposure:

You must submit a positive PPD and a negative chest x-ray. Once your chest x-ray is 1- year-old, you must submit an annual TB Clearance Letter.

If you have had the BCG vaccine, you must still receive a PPD. The vaccine will not be accepted in place of a PPD.

Titers/Vaccinations:

Documented antibody/IGG titer levels indicating immunity (blood draw to demonstrate your immune status to identified communicable diseases). To be effective, the blood test must indicate that you are positive for immunity with a numeric value. It cannot read “positive” or “negative”. Proof of immunity must be documented with a laboratory report.

Note: Students who do not demonstrate immunity to Hepatitis B, MMR or Varicella will be required to begin the vaccination series in order to receive their health clearance.

Results from your blood titers will direct other immunizations you will need. There is a specific order in which you need your testing done and vaccines to be given at the end of this testing. Therefore, vaccinations must be initiated, at minimum, a month before classes begin.

** Documentation of vaccination administration does not take the place of proof of an acceptable titer

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B immunizations are required for those who never had the vaccine or those with a negative titer. The Hepatitis surface antibody titer is required 30 days after the completion of immunization series. If titer does not indicate immunity, the series will be repeated.

You must submit A:
