How to Attend Your Online Academic Support Center Appointment

How-to Guides for Online Appointments

The Academic Support Center provides step-by-step guides for navigating online appointments and drop-in tutoring using Webex. Below are resources to help schedule, join, and troubleshoot common issues for online appointments.

How to Attend Online Appointments

  1. Log-in to your Harper Student Gmail account.
  2. Check for an email containing a join link from the tutor hosting the session before the start time.
Note: this is a separate email from the appointment confirmation email you receive at the time of booking.
  3. Click the join button/link to start your WebEx tutoring session.
  1. After opening the WebEx link, click β€˜Join from this browser.’
  2. Enter your name and Harper email address.
  3. Allow permissions for WebEx to use your camera(s) and microphone(s).
Note: macOS users will need to take extra steps to grant permissions. For help, see help.webex.com/en-us/article/73zvl3/Support-for-Cisco-Webex-Meetings-for-macOS-Catalina.
  4. Unmute and click β€˜Join meeting.’
  1. Click β€˜Unmute’ or hold spacebar to speak.
  2. Click the arrow next to β€˜Unmute’ to select a different microphone or speaker.

If your computer’s built-in microphone is not working, and you do not have a headset, you can call in and use your phone speaker instead.

  • Click β€˜Switch Audio’ then the β€˜View’ button for a β€˜Call In’ phone number & attendee code.
Note: do not leave the meeting to call in because you will still need to share the screen with the tutor.
  1. Open the document or website you’ll be working on with the tutor.
  2. Click β€˜Share’ then β€˜Share’ again to open the β€˜Choose what to share…’ pop-up window.
  3. Click β€˜Window’ then select the document or website you wish to share.
  4. Once you click β€˜Share’ again, the window you selected will be visible on the tutor’s screen.
  5. To end, click the blue pop-up or red button on the WebEx window (β€˜Stop sharing’).
  1. Click the β€˜Chat’ button in the lower right corner.
  2. Messages will appear in the upper box, type in the lower box and press enter to send a message.
