Harper College

Community Health Worker

Help where it's needed most

Community health workers provide a link between the community, healthcare practitioners and social services professionals. In addition to direct care, community health workers also participate in community-based education, advocacy, policy and change efforts to improve comprehensive healthcare delivery. Community health workers play a significant role in serving our diverse communities.

Students in the Community Health Worker Program at Harper College are trained in such areas as case management, medical terminology, community health, and working with diverse populations. The program prepares students for community health positions such as community health advocates, lay health educators, community health representatives, patient navigators, and promotores de salud. The program is ideal for those seeking immediate employment in the community health field, or pursuing additional education.
